René Nyanutse brings more than 25 years of teaching experience, in Togo and then in Maine, to his work with Search Associates' Consulting Division. He joined Search in 2022 as an Executive Assistant, supporting the Consulting team's work placing Heads of School and other school leaders within the international school community, a role he now balances alongside his ongoing teaching career.
René began teaching in his native Togo, first at a school in Lomé where he also handled guidance and scheduling, then at another where he led instructional innovation for the social studies department, an early thread that would carry through the rest of his career. He moved to Maine in 2007 to teach French as a world language, and has taught at Scarborough High School since 2012, including Advanced Placement French, where he also serves on the instructional design committee.
He holds a B.A. in Geography from the Université du Benin in Lomé and a Master of Science in Marine Resources Management from the Université du Québec à Rimouski, along with a Maine teaching certificate and several years of Chinese language study through the Confucius Institute.
At Search, René prepares proposals for schools requesting a leadership search, along with reports and the day-to-day communication that keeps a search moving, working closely with the Consulting team and Search's Director of Leadership Recruitment and Global Partnerships. That same organizational instinct, sharpened over years of teaching, is part of what he brings to the role.
René speaks French and Ewe natively, is fluent in English, and has basic Chinese and German. He lives in Scarborough, Maine, where he loves to travel and explore the outdoors with his family.
