Tony Macfadyen Appointed as New Head in Tanzania

Executive Vice President David Cope announced that St. Constantine's International School (SCIS) in Tanzania has named Tony Macfadyen as its new head, to begin in August 2016.

Tony has had an outstanding career as a teacher and a trainer of teachers, in the U.K. and abroad. He has taught in the U.K., Hong Kong, Kenya, and Malaysia. For the past 19 years, he has been with the Institute of Education, University of Reading, U.K., a top 200 World University, where he is Associate Professor, a member of the Senior Management Team, and Director of International Education and Enterprise. Tony is also the University's representative on the Board of University Technical College (UTC) Reading, an OFSTED 'Outstanding' School specializing in computer science and engineering.

In the last two years, Tony has served as a consultant to the International Olympic Committee on Olympic Values in Education and to the English Premier League on Primary Physical Education. Tony said,

"I am delighted and privileged to be the next Head of SCIS, and I can't wait to get started.  It is genuinely exciting to be joining the school in this role, and I look forward to working with staff, parents, pupils, and the Board in taking the school to its next phase. I'd like to thank Search Associates for the thorough and professional job they did in undertaking the recruitment process."

SCIS began as a boarding school with 30 students and two teachers in 1952, at the behest of a prospering Greek community in East Africa. By the mid '60s the school had evolved into an English-medium school, and in 1998 SCIS adopted the Cambridge International Curriculum. Now the largest international school in northern Tanzania, SCIS comprises two campuses, where 650 primary and secondary students, day and boarding, are overseen by 72 teachers and 100 support staff. The main Burka campus is about fifteen minutes from Arusha, and the smaller Town Campus is in the center of the city.

The school has extensive facilities to support its academic and extra-curricular programs. The main campus has 56 dedicated classrooms, two computer labs, five science laboratories, a new dining room, kitchen, and assembly hall, as well as extensive sports facilities, including a 25-meter outdoor swimming pool, two basketball courts, tennis courts, a beach volleyball court, two football fields, and a rugby field. With some of the best facilities in Tanzania, the school is proud of its excellent sporting reputation.

St. Constantine's International School is a diverse community, proud to serve both the Tanzanian and international communities. SCIS offers a high-quality, broad educational experience at a competitive price. SCIS continues to grow steadily and has great potential for further successful development. Search Associates congratulates St. Constantine's International School and wishes them well in their future collaboration.
