Crescendo-HELP International School (CHIS) is a new and developing school in Malaysia with excellent, well-resourced facilities. The purpose-built CHIS campus features a three-story, multi-purpose building with air-conditioned classrooms, two auditoriums, a large library, computer labs, dance and art studios, design and technology facilities, and a large canteen. Areas for athletics include a sports hall and fitness gymnasium, two swimming pools, two tennis courts, a football field, and running track.
Accredited by the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and a registered school with Cambridge International Examinations, CHIS currently enrolls 1,220 K–12 students of 20 nationalities, with 80% from Malaysia. The school delivers the IPC to Years 1–6. At the secondary level, students study the English national curriculum, leading to Cambridge checkpoint before progressing to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education and A levels. The teaching staff of 120 comprises 99 educators from Malaysia, 20 from the U.K., and one from North America.
A House System at CHIS organizes all students into four groups—Blue Phoenix, Yellow Yetis, Red Dragon, and Green Griffins—to create an atmosphere of healthy competition and opportunities for leadership and teamwork among students. Students receive House Points for taking part in events in which Houses compete throughout the year. These competitions cover a wide range of knowledge and skills to ensure that all students can be involved in working towards the success of their team.
Students may pursue a wealth of enrichment opportunities in recreation and competitive sports, performing arts, trips, and more. CHIS's Co-Curricular Activity Program (CCA)—led by school staff, volunteer parents, or a qualified regional organization—is fun, engaging, and educational. Primary students are highly encouraged to choose activities like Go Fitness, Lego Builders, Crafty Kids, Creative Puzzling, Great Gamers, Fun Badminton, Zumba, Basketball, and Jolly Phonics. Secondary students may choose from a range of physical activities: yoga, table tennis, dodgeball, badminton, dance, and basketball. Other clubs for the teens include board games, Glee Club, chess, Careers, Media Club, Malaysia Performing Arts, Scrapbook & Craft, and Art Guide IGCSE.
CHIS is interested in hiring certified teachers, including those with a non-teaching partner and exceptional newly-certified candidates. Teachers must hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Candidates under the age of 65 may obtain a work visa.
Benefits include a monthly housing allowance. The tuition benefit is 100% for a teacher’s first child, 50% for the second, and 30% for the third. Teachers are provided free access to sports facilities and the opportunity to contribute to the national Employee Provident Fund, in which case, CHIS will also contribute towards the employee’s fund. Professional learning programs are scheduled for two hours every Friday afternoon when students leave early. Local health insurance includes group personal accident coverage, hospitalization, and surgical insurance coverage. Medical out-patient expenses are reimbursed. Because of the low cost of living, these benefits amount to some nice savings.
