Saltus Grammar School, located in the Bermudan capital of Hamilton, is a high achieving, co-educational K–12 day school that has enjoyed an excellent and longstanding reputation in both the local and international educational communities. Founded in 1888 as a boys’ grammar school, Saltus became co-educational in 1991, the same year it underwent extensive renovations.
Fully-accredited by Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS), Saltus Grammar School’s international curriculum blends the best of both U.K. and North American traditions, including both the General (GCSE) and International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) as well as Advanced Placement courses. At present, 882 students of 27 nationalities are enrolled. Approximately one-third of them are from the North America and the U.K. while 63% are from Bermuda. The teaching staff of 113 includes 69 host country teachers and 29 from North America and the U.K.
The well-established school offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities. Its outstanding athletics program offers over 60 teams for students from the upper primary to secondary levels, and its facilities include a swimming pool and large gymnasium. Various teams participate in the Bermuda School Sports Federation’s competitions, and several teams compete overseas annually. Saltus is proud of its top programs in soccer and hockey. Music also flourishes in the upper primary and secondary levels, with separate orchestras, a secondary wind ensemble, and the Saltus Jazz Band, which the school’s website says, “has opened for international musicians at Bermuda’s own annual Music Festival.” Students in the debate club also compete locally and overseas. Other opportunities for enrichment and adventure include drama productions, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and the sailing club. Students can also take part in the science department’s ongoing conservation project on Saltus Island, an island of Bermuda.
While Saltus Grammar School prefers to hire single teachers, they will consider couples. They may also hire candidates certified in non-English speaking countries and newly-certified teachers with exceptional qualities. Certified candidates need not possess an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching, and there is no age limit to obtain a work visa in Bermuda.

In addition to a 30% discount on tuition for their children, teachers are provided with professional development courses. The school also contributes 5% to a retirement plan.
