Teach Abroad at Regents International School Pattaya

Since its establishment in 1994, Regents International School Pattaya (RISP) in Thailand has built a reputation as one of the most highly regarded international day and boarding schools in Southeast Asia. As a Nord Anglia Education School, the school is part of a global family of 46 schools providing an outstanding education to over 37,000 students. Head of School Sarah Osborne-James says of RISP,

“We take a forward-thinking approach to teaching and pastoral care [; we] have wonderful students, a lively atmosphere, excellent facilities, and countless opportunities for staff to bring individual interests and passions alive.”

RISP delivers the English National Curriculum, from Pre-Nursery to the end of primary school, adjusted for the needs of its global and domestic communities. Currently, 1,000 students representing 41 nationalities are enrolled. Nearly 30% of the students are from North America and the U.K., and 26% are from Thailand. Following their IGCSE examinations, students enter the two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, which as the school says, “[provides] them with the best possible preparation for university and beyond.” RISP is fully-accredited by Education Development Trust. The teaching staff of 120 comprises 90 teachers from the U.K., one from North America, and three from Thailand.

RISP is located in a beautiful rural area, surrounded by palm trees, just outside of Pattaya on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand. The school is about 100 km south of Bangkok and just a 90-minute drive from Bangkok International Airport. The campus consists of four main buildings dedicated to early years, the primary school, and the secondary school, as well as a newly-refurbished International Baccalaureate Centre. Every school building has a wireless broadband internet connection, and both the primary and secondary schools feature newly-refurbished information and communication technology rooms along with a music technology suite of Apple computers.

Sports facilities include a 400-meter, all-weather running track; an air-conditioned double-size sports hall; an Astroturf sports field; two outdoor swimming pools with audience seating; and a full-sized football field. RISP’s theater, The Globe, accommodates an audience of 300 for lectures, drama, and musical performances. The school also boasts two drama studios, two dance studios, and two art studios. Additionally, music departments in both the primary and secondary schools are well-equipped to serve RISP’s students. Recently renovated boarding facilities, separated by gender, can house up to 160 students total. Three kitchens and an alfresco café serve fresh meals and snacks throughout the day.

RISP is interested in hiring singles and couples. The school will also consider exceptional newly-certified teachers and those certified in non-English speaking countries. However, teachers must possess an academic degree in the subject they will teach. Many staff families live on the boarding school campus, and RISP prefers that new hires with families live on the school site for the first year. Thailand issues work visas to teachers up to the age of 65, but the school notes that “All teachers must have Qualified Teaching Status (QTS).”

The salary and benefits package allows for substantial savings or for a family of four to live on one salary. All teachers receive a moving allowance. Furnished housing, including utilities, is free for those who live on campus, and those who choose otherwise receive a housing stipend. Teachers receive one annual roundtrip airfare home. Worldwide health insurance—except for the U.S.—is fully covered and includes emergency evacuation. Dental insurance is also available, with teachers paying a percentage. Travel insurance for teachers from the U.S. traveling there for the holidays is provided. For dependents, full tuition as well as fees for Outdoor Education are covered; teachers are responsible only for school uniforms. Teachers are also granted maternity leave after at least one year of employment. Other bonuses include a lunch allowance and end-of-contract severance pay. RISP is committed to providing professional development.
