Search Associates Welcomes New Director in Ghana

Senior Associates Ralph Jahr and Jim Ambrose are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Ben Marsh as new Head of School for Lincoln Community School (LCS) in Accra, Ghana, beginning in July 2016 for the 2016-17 academic year. He and his wife will be accompanied by their two children who will join the LCS elementary school.

Mr. Marsh has been High School Principal of the American International School of Dhaka (AISD) in Bangladesh since his arrival in 2009. Prior to his position at AISD, he was Director of the American International School of Lesotho, in Maseru, Lesotho. He has also worked in South Asia as well as in public and independent schools in the United States. Mr. Marsh earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Portland, and a BA in Elementary Education from the University of Montana.

Lincoln Community School began in 1968 with 8 students in a rented building in the North Ridge neighborhood of Accra under the direction of two American couples. The school was able to expand due to ear ly support by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Texaco Oil Company. By 1970, the Office of Overseas Schools and the government of Ghana officially recognized the school, and its first Board of Directors was appointed. The school leased land for its current site in Abelemkpe in 1978, and over the years, LCS grew into a pre-K–12 school. Enrollment increased rapidly when the school earned accreditation by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) in 1995. And by 2006, authorization was granted for every level of the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) Program ("Explore").

Currently, 752 students from over 60 countries enjoy renovated science laboratories, choices of 86 activities and 16 sports, new counseling and communications centers, refurbished libraries, a visual and performing arts center as well as a semi-Olympic pool. The school employs 68 full-time teachers and 143 dedicated administrative and support personnel ("Explore"). Search Associates congratulates both Ben Marsh and Lincoln Community School on a match well made and wishes them great success in the years ahead.
