Search Associates has just registered the high-caliber Rome International School (RIS). About a 15-minute walk from some of Rome's major attractions, RIS is located in a natural park of 8 ½ acres in a low-rise residential area. This pre-K-12 school of 485 predominantly Italian students offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program for both elementary and high school students, in addition to the International General Certificate for Secondary Education (IGSE). Currently the staff of 55 includes three teachers from North America, 16 from Italy, and 18 from the U.K.
RIS, because of its small size, prefers single teachers with or without dependents. The school does, however, mention local opportunities for non-teaching spouses. RIS would consider outstanding, newly-certified teachers with limited experience. Visas are issued for certified teachers up to the age of 65, but non-European Union citizens are cautioned to apply six to eight months prior to the starting date, due to a lengthy authorization/visa process.
Benefits include a 15-day hotel stay upon arrival to Rome, 450 euro for the flight and relocation expenses, and 90% tuition reduction. Teachers have access to the Italian health system as well as its retirement plan. RIS also awards a severance pay: one month's salary for every year of service. Expected annual savings per year is approximately $2,000 for single teachers and $3,000 for a married teaching couple.
