Peking University Experimental School, Jiaxing: Where the Time-Honored and Modern Merge

Search Associates is pleased to announce its collaboration with Peking University Experimental School (PKUES JX), a new K—12 boarding school designed for the 21st century, now in its third year of operation. The school, essentially a university in miniature, has wonderful facilities equipped with world-class technology. Twenty-eight minutes by high speed train from Shanghai City Center, the school benefits from its location in the green "lake and canal" town of Jiaxing, which offers all the amenities of a large Chinese city, but on a smaller scale. Certain aspects of the campus have been designed using Peking University (est. 1898) as the model, with the added beauty of modern design and landscape architecture.

The seeds for PKUES JX were sown in 2001, when the first Peking University Experimental School (PKUES) was co-founded by Beijing University and Beida Jade Bird Group. PKUES JX was established in 2016, after PKUES had successfully founded nearly thirty other schools.

PKUES JX’s facilities include a multi-purpose performing arts center, a 25-meter swimming pool, a 750-seat theater, an outdoor play area with a full-size soccer pitch, and a state-of-the-art playground system. The school also boasts one of the finest high school gyms, including a fully-outfitted fitness center, in all of Asia. Moreover, its kindergarten has been specifically tailored for students ages 2—6, with two outdoor play centers, an indoor gross motor development center, a junior track, agym, two libraries, and two cafeterias.

Boarding at PKUES JX means so much more than just sleeping on campus. Each dormitory floor has a leisure room, and the school organizes many social gatherings as well as a variety of educational and inspiring activities that broaden students’ horizons. The secondary school dormitory even has a café and book bar! The school promises students, who may begin boarding as early as first grade, “a golden childhood.”

PKUES JX is interested in hiring teaching couples and singles. The school’s current staff of 58 teachers includes 24 from China and 16 from North America and the U.K. All teachers must have their academic degree and be certified in the subject they will be teaching, and ideally, will hold a master's degree. The school also requires candidates to have a minimum of two years’ of K-12 teaching experience. Preference will be given to teachers with four or more years’ experience in the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years, Middle Years, and Diploma Programs, and an ESL certificate would also be an advantage. PKUES JX is interested in teachers certified in non-English speaking countries as well as exceptional, newly-certified teachers. Certificated teachers up to the age of 60 may obtain a work visa in China.

PKUES JX provides a competitive, tax-free salary, monthly housing allowance, annual round-trip airfare, and a one-time settling-in allowance and furniture allowance. Additionally, free tuition is offered for one dependent per contracted teacher. Local health insurance is fully covered, and teachers are also given a generous annual stipend for professional development as well as allowances for lunch and mobile phone use. A PKUES JX contract offers a great potential for savings.
