Overseas Teaching Possibilities in Dublin

SEK-Dublin International School (SEK-Dublin), the first school in Ireland authorized to deliver the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP), has just joined Search Associates. Founded in 1981 and recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Education, SEK-Dublin is part of the SEK Group, which provides student-centered, Spanish-English bilingual education in six schools in Spain and three others in France, Qatar, and Ireland. The SEK Group is not affiliated with any religious, political, or economic party.

The school is located between the sea and the mountains in County Wicklow, about 30 kilometers from Dublin. Students reside with host families in the local community, who play a vital role in the language immersion program. The campus encompasses magnificent buildings and grounds at Belvedere Hall, Greystones, and in September 2011, the school opened a modern two-story building, housing open-plan classrooms, laboratories, robotics and multimedia classrooms, a music room, visual arts studio, and theater classroom. In addition to a well-stocked central library, students have access to campus Wi-Fi, laptops, iPads, digital whiteboards, iMacs, and Lego Robotics. Sports facilities include tennis and basketball courts, and grass soccer (football) and rugby pitches.

Currently 80 students aged 12–16 study the MYP. A small percentage of the students come from Ireland and North America, and 11 of the 16 teaching staff are Irish. Study plans center on building responsibility, conducting research, and engaging in interdisciplinary studies. The school provides different options for the time frame of its academic program: three-, four-, or six-month segments; whole year; and summer cultural experiences. Additionally, SEK-Dublin offers many extracurricular activities, from basketball, hockey, rugby, tennis, horse-riding, golf, Zumba, and playing soccer in the local league, to arts offerings in painting, theater, and piano. The school also actively participates in a cultural events program for Dublin schools, which enables students to attend plays and concerts as well as exhibitions at the Trinity College Dublin Science Gallery.

SEK-Dublin is interested in hiring singles, couples, and interns. Teachers must be certified, hold an EU passport, and possess an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. The school will consider those certified in non-English speaking countries as well as exceptional, newly-certified teachers. Ireland issues work visas up to age of 64.

The benefits package includes some airfare at the start of employment, subsidized tuition for up to two children, professional development opportunities, and daily lunch.
