Overseas Teaching Opportunities in the Hub of Singapore

Experience teaching abroad at the Australian International School (AIS), voted Best International School in Singapore in 2022. Proud of its holistic approach to teaching and learning for the last 30 years, the school says, "Our enviable education destination and multicultural environment is underpinned by our Australian values that truly make a difference. Every day, we live by the values of respect, opportunity, and achievement."

Singapore is a marvelous place for international teaching and families because of its safety, cleanliness, efficient public transportation, low crime rates, and outstanding healthcare. Its small size means that traveling from one end of the city to the other typically takes only 30-40 minutes by car, making everything relatively close and easily accessible. Another big draw is its proximity to neighboring Southeast Asian countries, such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. The island country offers a high quality of life, with lush green spaces and a rich tapestry of cultural experiences. The school adds,

It's a place where you can build a successful career while enjoying a vibrant lifestyle…Notably, some of our original teachers from the school's founding in 1993 are still with us today. Our region has so much to offer, making it a truly appealing choice!

AIS is centrally located, with the city's main shopping hub, Orchard, just a quick 15-minute car ride away. Many of the school’s dedicated staff and parents choose to reside near the school, simplifying their daily commutes. Housing options in this area also tend to be more affordable compared to the city center. For international teaching staff residing in different parts of the city, the accessible public transportation option makes commuting easy. The campus is an 8-minute walk from the closest MRT.

AIS’s Early Learning Village’s 50,000-square-meter facility is recognized as the largest preschool in the world. Modern amenities and resources there include versatile outdoor play decks; a 20-meter swimming pool, designed with its youngest swimmers in mind; dedicated spaces for gymnastics and dance classes; a cozy library; parent-friendly cafes, and much more. The fusion of cutting-edge facilities and an innovative educational program truly defines AIS’s approach to Early Years Education.

AIS’s Elementary School sets students on a journey of self-discovery, nurturing their unique strengths and interests both inside and outside the classroom. State-of-the-art, contemporary designs foster a highly collaborative learning environment rooted in the values of trust, care, respect, and understanding. Among the facilities are art studios, specialized classrooms, a versatile multipurpose hall, and well-equipped standard classrooms, all designed for holistic learning experiences.

World-class facilities in the Secondary School foster holistic growth and development: modern, air-conditioned classrooms, a dedicated theatre, rugby pitches, swimming pools, gymnasiums, state-of-the-art science laboratories, studios for both visual and performing arts, design and technology workshops, tennis courts, and even a high-performance Athlete Development Laboratory.

Accredited by both the Council of International Schools and the Australian Ministry of Education and authorized by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization, AIS offers a truly international education, beginning with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), from Preschool to Year 5; the Australian Curriculum, for Years 6 to 8; Cambridge IGCSE and the Australian Curriculum in Years 9 and 10, followed by the Higher School Certificate (HSC) or International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) for Years 11 and 12. Currently enrolled are 2,300 students from age two to 18, with over 50 nationalities represented from around the world. Twenty-five percent of the teaching staff are from Singapore.

AIS takes great pride in providing an extensive array of enriching co-curricular activities (CCAs), offering students a well-rounded educational experience beyond the classroom. There's something to ignite the passion and interests of every student, with over 300 diverse options from which to choose, such as Chess Club, Lego Club, or ballet.

AIS can hire diverse certified singles and couples wishing to teach abroad, including couples with a non-teaching partner and newly certified candidates. Teachers need not hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. As per government regulations, those up to the age of 63 may obtain a work visa.

Overseas teaching benefits include a competitive salary and allowances for moving, housing, and annual airfare. Worldwide health insurance—except for the U.S.—is fully covered and includes life, dental, and emergency evacuation. AIS provides professional development opportunities for its staff. Finally, there are local employment prospects for non-teaching partners.
