Overseas Teaching in Europe Where Western and Eastern Civilizations Meet

Imagine overseas teaching experience tucked away in a charming residential neighborhood of Skopje, the capital city of North Macedonia, at NOVA International School Skopje (NOVA). Since 1997, NOVA International School is committed to providing an exceptional educational experience to pre-kindergarten through Grade 12 students since 1997. The school currently enrolls 753 students representing 45 nations.

Skopje offers a rich blend of history, culture, and natural beauty reflected in its architecture, culture, and way of life. As you explore this young and safe capital—and up-and-coming city—you’ll be captivated by its ancient landmarks, charming cobblestone streets, and bustling markets. With its moderate continental climate and picturesque landscapes, Skopje provides the perfect backdrop for an enriching overseas teaching experience.

The purpose-built campus of NOVA features buildings for each stage of education, connected by a sky bridge. Recent improvements include a panoramic elevator, a new cafeteria extension, expanded green spaces, and upgraded playground equipment. Outdoor areas encompass playgrounds, a soccer field, a basketball court, and an amphitheater whereas indoor facilities include labs, art rooms, libraries, cafeterias, music and dance studios, and a design studio. Additionally, NOVA utilizes a nearby sports center for physical education and events.

NOVA is accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science of North Macedonia and is a full member of the Central and Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA) as a State Department-assisted school. Sixty-four percent of the teaching staff and 57% of the students are from Macedonia. The school is also authorized by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS) and proud to be named an International Baccalaureate (IB) World Continuum School authorized to offer three IB programmes: PYP, MTP and DP. The school is affiliated with the College Board for TOEFL/SAT testing services.

Beyond the classroom, NOVA’s commitment to holistic development extends to their vibrant after-school activities program, designed to foster teamwork, creativity, and personal growth. Students of all grades can participate in various athletics, such as soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, gymnastics, cross-country, and swimming as well as artistic activities, such as drama, band, choir, and ballet.

NOVA student-led clubs program allows all students in Grades 6 through 12 to nurture their interests and leadership skills by autonomously managing a club tailored to their interests and needs. All students can propose their ideas and establish a club through an application. Furthermore, students are encouraged to solicit their peers' interests by presenting their clubs at the student-led Clubs Fair, an event held at the start of each academic year. NOVA provides access to its facilities, and faculty and staff members provide guidance and oversight, ensuring the smooth functioning and development of these clubs.

NOVA hires experienced, certified single teachers and teaching couples of diverse backgrounds worldwide, wishing to teach abroad. Candidates need to hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. As per government regulations, those up to the age of 60 may obtain a work visa. The school states,

At NOVA, we believe in nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped with the knowledge, skills, and character traits necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing world…Join our vibrant community and be a part of the journey where we unlock the potential of our learning community. Together, we can inspire excellence and shape the leaders of tomorrow.

Overseas teaching benefits include a non-taxed salary and allowances for moving, settling in, monthly housing, and annual airfare. The school provides complete support for the entire work permit process. Full tuition is covered for up to two children and 50% for subsequent children. Professional development is aligned with the school’s Professional Growth and Development Policy and based on continuous support, observation, and feedback on employees' achievement of professional goals. Local health insurance, including dental, is fully covered but caps the age limit at 64.
