New Director Hired in Zambia

Senior Associates Dr. Ralph Jahr and Jim Ambrose were pleased to announce that the worldwide search and screening of highly qualified candidates yielded a new Director of the American International School of Lusaka (AISL). Mr. Russell Menard will take the position in July 2016.

Mr. Menard has been Middle and High School Principal of AISL since 2013. Prior to that, he served as Director of the American School of Tripoli in Libya and both Middle and High School Principal at Harare International School in Zimbabwe. Currently working towards a Doctorate in Education at Plymouth State University, Mr. Menard already holds a Master of Arts in Education from Plymouth State College and a BA in History from the University of New Hampshire.

The American International School of Lusaka is located on 23 beautiful acres on the outskirts of Lusaka, Zambia. Founded in 1986, AISL is a leading member of the Association of International Schools in Africa. This affiliation provides the school with top-notch professional development as well as connections to other schools in Zambia and others in sub-Saharan Africa. AISL is accredited by both the Council of International Schools and the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges and is authorized to deliver three levels of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, from early childhood through grade twelve. Students can earn a U.S. high school diploma and/or an IB Diploma. The school is the first in Africa to implement the one-to-one iPad Program for grades six through twelve.

Currently, more than 580 students representing 45 nationalities attend the school. AISL's faculty of 17 different nationalities is deeply committed to helping students become responsible world citizens. Extra-curricular activities in sport, the arts, and community service in the local district offer myriad opportunities for students. Guidance and college counseling, English as an Additional Language, and Special Education provide ample student support.

Mr. Menard will work with a seven-member board of directors, two of which are appointed by the U.S. Ambassador to Zambia, and five of whom are elected by the AISL Parent Association. Of these five parents/legal guardians, two must be affiliated with the U.S. government. Search Associates congratulates Mr. Menard on his promotion in the school he already knows and loves so well.
