Marymount International School London

Search Associates warmly welcomes Marymount International School London (MMI London), a small school with an outstanding 35-year record of preparing young women for the International Baccalaureate (IB) as well as matriculation at some of the world's best universities. MMI London, which offers both day and boarding options, is a member of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary's network of 19 schools located in Europe, the United States, and South America. This nurturing Catholic community welcomes individuals of all faiths and achieves a shared purpose of preparing girls for life in a global setting. The school's idyllic campus is located in Coombe Wood, only 30 minutes from central London.

A beautiful spring campus

MMI London is a member of the Girls' School Association and is accredited by the Council of International Schools, the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and the Independent Schools Inspectorate. The school offers its 260 girls in Grades 6–12 the IB Middle Years and Diploma Programmes, which the school says, "[stretch] students without the need for incessant testing." The student population, comprising 45 nationalities, includes 23% from the U.K. and 5% from North America. The teaching staff of 48 includes 23 from the U.K. and seven from North America.

In terms of extracurricular choices, MMI London has all the offerings of a larger school or even a college! An active Student Council not only serves as a bridge of communication from students to teachers and the Senior Management Team, but also organizes events such as Halloween, Spirit

Week, and International Day. Additionally, students in Grade 11 can apply to be captain of one of the four School Houses, which create smaller communities within the school. Other stimulating opportunities for developing leadership skills include the National Honor Society and The Hague Model UN.

Students can join clubs for a variety of interests, such as debate, art and design, science, and math. Three quarters of the school community collaborate with the music and art departments to mount an annual theater production, with students participating extensively both on and off the stage. Because the International Schools Theatre Association is a patron of the school, MMI London students—along with students from other IB schools all over the world—can attend theater festivals that expose them to master classes and world-class productions. Lastly, community service, a key component of the IB Programme, is another vital aspect of student life. In 2012, MMI London organized a community service trip to Zambia!

Opportunities for sports also abound at MMI London. Athletes can participate in soccer, volleyball, cross-country, basketball, badminton, track and field, and tennis, and high school students compete weekly in matches against other local international schools and clubs. MMI London students have access to top-notch athletic facilities both on and off campus: a full-size gymnasium, adjoining tennis courts, and a state-of-the art fitness center. Furthermore, the school transports students to and from other venues in nearby Kingston upon Thames, New Malden, and Wimbledon.

MMI London is interested in hiring single teachers but will consider teaching couples and interns. Also of interest to the school are the following: exceptional, newly-certified candidates; outstanding, experienced candidates who lack certification; and candidates certified in a non-English speaking country. Teachers must have an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching, but there is no age limit to obtain a visa.

Benefits include a 50% tuition benefit for all children of staff, and housing accommodation is provided for teachers who become boarding parents. Faculty may join the Teachers' Pension Scheme, towards which MMI contributes 16.48% of a teacher's salary and the teacher contributes between 7.4% and 11.7%, depending on his or her salary. Excellent professional development opportunities and access to BUPA private health insurance are also available. Staff members receive free parking as well as daily lunch and may purchase a bicycle tax-free.
