Look for Overseas Teaching Vacancies at Malvern College Egypt!

Located just outside Cairo, the new Malvern College Egypt (MCE) is now an esteemed Search Associates member school. MCE, which opened in August 2016, is supported by the long history of its parent school Malvern College in the United Kingdom, established in 1865. Representatives from Malvern College U.K. visit MCE on a regular basis to provide their insights and expertise and to conduct inspections based on the institution's set of high academic standards.

Cairo, a 20-minute metro ride from the school, is a vibrant city with plenty to see and do, as well as easy access to the many ancient Egyptian sites along the Nile. The capital is ideally located for short getaways to southern Europe, the Middle East, and sub-Saharan Africa. MCE is also a little over one hour away from the Red Sea resorts of Ain Sokhna and three hours from the Mediterranean coast.

MCE currently serves 512 K–12 students of 25 nationalities. The school offers the International General Certificate of Secondary Education and internationally recognized pre-university qualifications, including A-levels. While 76% of MCE's students are Egyptian, 14% are from North America and the U.K. The teaching staff of 68 includes 12 teachers from Egypt and 56 from the U.K. MCE is accredited by the Egyptian Ministry of Education and has submitted an application to the International Baccalaureate Organization in order to become a candidate.

Designed as a tribute to Egyptian architecture, but with a modern touch, the MCE campus is set among low-rise residential complexes, which are part of an on-going project to develop housing where factories once stood. The school has all the amenities of a premier international school: classrooms are bright and airy, with extensive access to information technology; an on-site restaurant provides healthy meals made with fresh produce; and the school boasts facilities that make work and study a pleasure, including:

"… six fully equipped science laboratories, a three-storey library and media centre, and three dedicated music studios with six peripatetic music practice rooms… a dance studio, a 25m six-lane swimming pool, a beginners pool for the Early Years, two netball courts, a basketball court, a 7-a-side FIFA 2 professional quality all weather surface, a 550-seat theatre, a black box theatre, food technology and art and design technology workshops. Additionally there is a sizeable medical centre, dedicated parent lounges, a coffee shop and a stunning central piazza."

The Malvern College ethos is based on four components of student development. Academic achievement includes a love for learning, the exploration of ideas, and active involvement. Character development, the second component, means the strengthening of self-worth and self-respect, the ability to make good choices, and the ability to show respect and concern for others.

The third component is exposure to the arts and culture, wherein the school provides opportunities for students to participate in art, drama, music, and dance, as well as field trips to galleries, performances, and museums. For the fourth component, MCE expects its students to take part in co-curricular activities such as physical and outdoor education, games, and various clubs.

MCE prefers to hire singles and couples experienced and certificated in the U.K. Couples may be married, unmarried, or with a non-teaching spouse, for whom there will be local employment opportunities. MCE does not require teachers to hold a degree in the subject they will be teaching. Certificated teachers up to the age of 60 may obtain a work visa in Egypt.

MCE provides a non-taxed salary and a moving allowance along with a fully-furnished "Western-style" apartment in a great location in Maadi. Some utilities are covered as well. The school provides a 100% tuition benefit for up to two children, and teachers and their dependents receive annual airfare for one home leave. The school pays for worldwide (except for the U.S.) health insurance, and offers professional development opportunities internally and externally. Finally, transportation is provided to and from the school. A contract with MCE offers the potential for substantial savings.
