Join Hualang’s Growing Team of International Teachers

Established in 2021, Shenzhen Hualang School is a private Chinese boarding school that includes an international academy. The prize-winning campus design of Hualang comprises more than 96,000 square metres and is a spacious state-of-the-art facility. A well thought out conversion of a former factory, the modern campus is flooded with natural light and surrounded by expansive gardens.

There is a local saying: If you want to see the future of China come to Shenzhen. Shenzhen itself is a young and exciting high-tech city, with a young and open-minded population. This center of innovation in China has an airport and fast links across the whole country and to other parts of Asia. In close proximity to Hong Kong, Shenzhen hosts many international events. This city boasts good air quality and is clean and very safe. In Shenzhen, a system called WeChat is used to pay for everything and organize one’s life conveniently.

Hualang is located in the up-and-coming area of Shenzhen—Pingshan—which awaits the city’s next phase of development. Pingshan already has a modern Cultural Centre, with plans to open brand new amenities such as a five-star hotel and Western malls. While the metro line does not currently run to Pingshan, the line is due to extend there in 2022. The school’s immediate neighborhood features wetlands, several beautiful parks, and good access to the hills for walking. Decent-sized, modern apartments in close proximity to the school are within a teacher’s housing allowance. For those who love the seaside, Pingshan is less than an hour drive to Dameisha and Dapeng.

Licensed by the local Ministry of Education and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Hualang currently enrolls 42 students—mostly from China—in Years 10-13 (UK). The school is currently undergoing the application process with the Cambridge Assessment International Examinations and the International Baccalaureate (Diploma Programme) to deliver both programs. The teaching staff of 15 includes nine educators from China.

Hualang offers a curriculum combining the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and A Levels, followed by the IB Diploma Programme (IB DP). The Hualang holistic approach places strong emphasis on the arts, creative pursuits, and sports. The school also integrates a personal and social health education program, service learning, individualized tutor support, a House system, a student leadership program, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Programme, and Model United Nations (MUN).

Hualang can  hire certified candidates of all profiles, including couples with a non-teaching partner, newly-certified teachers, and interns. The school prefers candidates with experience teaching their subject in IGCSE, A Level, and DP—or those with a like-minded philosophy and a willingness to grow. Teachers need not hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching (but it is preferred). Those up to the age of 56 may apply to the school to ensure that the candidate will remain under the government-assigned age limit of 60 during the course of employment. Head of School Neil Bunting adds,

We are looking for passionate educators who not only care about supporting children’s development but are also qualified and professional in all aspects of work. We require team players who are flexible and adaptable with a new school in a new area—problem solvers and go getters. We are looking for clear communicators who are caring and open minded, with a strong work ethic but also balanced. Lastly, we require teachers who are culturally sensitive, and we offer full orientation for teachers new to China.

The benefits package includes a settling-in allowance, visa reimbursement, monthly housing, and a travel allowance. Tuition is free if the child meets age and academic requirements. Teachers receive annual funds for professional development in their IGSCE specialist subject. Worldwide health insurance—except in the U.S.—is fully covered and includes emergency evacuation. A normal working day includes free meals served by the school. These benefits add up to outstanding savings!
