International Teaching Vacancies on the Isle of Penang

GEMS International School of Pearl City, Penang (GIP) is the first International school on Mainland Penang, just off the mainland of the Malay peninsula. The school is located in a new, fast-developing residential area that is home to affluent families, and towns with modern amenities are only 15 minutes away. Popular destinations throughout Asia can be reached within one to three hours.

The parent company, GEMS Education, which was launched in 1959, runs a global network of award-winning international schools in Europe, North America, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. GEMS Education Malaysia includes Tropicana Metropark in Subang Jaya and now GIP in Pearl City, Penang.

The GIP campus features first-rate facilities, including two football fields, a fully-equipped multi-purpose hall, a primary sports hall, two swimming pools, specialist classrooms including science labs, a dance studio, a black box theatre, and various shared learning spaces—indoors and outdoors.

A Council of British International Schools compliance school, GIP is also fully accredited by Cambridge International Examinations as well as the Ministry of Education in Malaysia. Currently enrolled are 422 K–12 students, 89% of whom are Malaysian, with 2% from the U.K. This day school delivers the British curriculum up to A Levels as well as the International General Certificate of Secondary Education. The teaching staff of 52 comprises 22 from the U.K. and 30 from Malaysia.

Extracurricular activities range from creative and performing arts to subject extensions and sports activities. GIP makes sure that these activities are run by their dedicated teaching staff and local community experts within the school day so that every student has access to co-curricular enrichment activities as part of their learning experience.

GIP is interested in hiring singles, interns, and couples, including those with a non-teaching partner. They will also consider exceptional newly-certified candidates, those certified in non-English speaking countries, and experienced local teachers who lack certification. Candidates need not possess an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Certified teachers up to the age of 55 may obtain a work visa.

Benefits include a moving allowance, annual airfare, and full tuition for one child. Health insurance is covered and professional development provided.
