Cap Cana Heritage School (CCHS) is a private, American-curriculum international school in Punta Cana, a resort town in the Dominican Republic. Associated with the Cap Cana Resort, the school is located in a quiet, convenient, and safe rural area, a 15-minute drive away from the local supermarket, shopping malls, and banks.
Purpose-built in 2007, the CCHS campus was designed for optimal learning in a warm and welcoming environment. Within its large 10-acre campus, 32 spacious and well-furnished classrooms are complemented by three science labs, three art studios, a large (and growing) library, an audio-visual room, and a budding makerspace lab. Stunning outdoor spaces include two sport courts, two playgrounds, a tennis court, a soccer field, a half-Olympic-size pool, and a smaller recreational pool. CCHS also boasts an industrial size kitchen, a large cafeteria, and a multi-purpose gym.
Accredited by both the Dominican Ministry of Education and AdvancED, CCHS is also a member of the Tri-Association as well as the Association of Colombian-Caribbean American Schools. The school delivers the U.S. Common Core curriculum, and for students in the upper levels, the school offers an array of Advanced Placement classes. Currently enrolled are 322 students from pre-K through 12, representing over 20 countries. Classes are taught in the English language, except for subjects required by the Dominican Ministry of Education. The teaching staff of 65 is half Dominican and half North American.
Available to students from K–12, the CCHS after-school program offers a wide array of activities that expose students to something they might not experience during the normal school day. Students may participate in activities ranging from sports such as soccer and basketball to specialty classes including Lego Robotics and chess. Other offerings in the area of creative arts, include hip-hop and Latin dance, as well as sculpture and musical theater. Based on student feedback and availability, classes may vary each semester. While the fees for one activity are included within the tuition payment, families may enroll in extra activities for an additional cost.
CCHS is interested in hiring singles and interns. They will consider teaching couples, outstanding newly-certified teachers, experienced local teachers lacking certification, and those certified in non-English speaking countries. Candidates must possess an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Those up to the age of 50 may obtain a work visa in the Dominican Republic. The school is looking for “teachers who are creative, self-motivated, team oriented, flexible, and who exhibit our guiding values of wisdom, leadership and integrity."
The benefits package includes a monthly housing allowance and annual airfare. Local health insurance and tuition is fully covered; however, staff members pay for their children’s annual registration. The school provides professional development opportunities. Due to the low cost of living in the Dominican Republic, teachers could see some savings on this package.
