International Teaching Jobs in China

Beanstalk International Bilingual School, Kunming Campus (BIBS Kunming) is the first international bilingual school in Kunming following the International Baccaulareate (IB) curriculum. The school, which has two off-site kindergartens that feed into its elementary school, opened in August 2016. Offering a unique bilingual education founded upon the philosophy and principles of the IB, BIBS Kunming’s beautiful and modern campus is located in the new district of Chenggong. With a capacity for 1,200 students, the campus features bright and well-resourced classrooms, libraries, a dance and music classroom, an art classroom, indoor and outdoor sports and play areas, and cafe areas. The moderate atmosphere and clean air of the Yunnan Province, located in southwestern China, make Kunming and the surrounding areas very popular tourist destinations within China.

Fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, BIBS Kunming currently enrolls 160 Chinese students from kindergarten through Grade 12, as well as about 25 students from North America and the U.K. BIBS Kunming embraces the Chinese National Curriculum standards in Language and Mathematics, but this candidate school for the IB Diploma Programme also offers all levels of the IB Programme. The teaching staff of 100 comprises 60 teachers from North America and the U.K. and 40 from China.

BIBS Kunming is interested in hiring singles, couples, and interns. They will also consider exceptional, newly-certified candidates and experienced local candidates who lack certification. Non-native English speakers must have a degree from an English speaking country, and all teachers must hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. The school adds, “We are unable to hire teachers with nationalities for whom visas are restricted by the Chinese government.” Visas can be obtained in China until age 60.

The benefits package includes a non-taxed salary, a settling-in allowance, a monthly housing allowance plus annual airfare. Free tuition for up to two children and daily lunch for staff are also provided. With regards to professional development, the school states, “BIBS highly values Professional Learning and ensures that all staff get access to IB-sanctioned PD over the course of a two-year period. There are six Professional Learning days offered during the school year.” Worldwide health insurance (except for the U.S.) is fully paid and includes emergency evacuation. The school’s health insurance plan also fully covers in-patient services. Teachers are welcome to choose a more comprehensive plan at an additional cost borne by the teacher. There are local employment opportunities for non-teaching spouses. The BIBS Kunming contract allows for savings or the opportunity for a family of four to live on one salary.
