International Teaching Jobs in Beijing

Chaoyang KaiWen Academy (CKWA) is a day and boarding school in Beijing with plans to become an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. The school, which delivers the IB Primary Years and Diploma Programmes along with the Cambridge curricula (IGCSEs), will implement a co-teaching model across the school for students to become literate and numerate in both Chinese and English. CKWA also emphasizes the arts and sports, cultivating cooperation and competition as well as creativity and innovation. The school says,

We are trying our best to be a school of distinction that educates young people to become open-minded, inquiring, courageous, reflective, principled and caring citizens.

CKWA is accredited by China National Course and Cambridge Assessment International Education, and is a candidate for IB authorization to offer the PYP and DP. Currently enrolled are 750 K–12 students, mostly from China, with 10% from North America and the U.K. The teaching staff of 150 includes 50 from China and 50 from North America and the U.K.

At least eight arts and sports periods are scheduled in each student’s weekly timetable. CKWA employs professional artists and partners with domestic and international professional arts organizations in order to guide students in visual arts, dance, vocal music, and piano. Emulating theaters at home and abroad, the Performance Center—with its 220-seat black box theater and 800-seat theater—provides students with an impressive setting for the performing arts. Likewise, exceptional sports facilities at CKWA motivate students to be active on the football field and track, basketball and tennis courts, ice-skating rink, swimming pool, and more! The school employs professional coaches to work with students. To provide students with more training and competition opportunities, plans are underway to establish more sports clubs for tennis, football, basketball, field hockey, ice sports, and water sports.

Living at school provides students with a full-time education, with time for play and study. Teachers and dormitory staff support students with reading, verbal and written communication, cultivation of research skills, and participation in extracurricular activities. The staff aims to help students recognize and build on their strengths and weaknesses as they complete their tasks. In this way, students can benefit from the depth and breadth of the IB curriculum.

Because many of its students are only children, the boarding program at CKWA is designed to resemble the environment of a mixed-age family, where students are encouraged to develop close relationships with their peers of all ages. Respect, honesty, trust, and tolerance are cornerstones of community life. As students live, study, exercise, play, cooperate, and compete together, they improve personal and group leadership skills, decision-making skills, their sense of responsibility, social skills, self-management skills, and independence. CKWA teachers support and mentor students in the dormitories while providing a vital line of communication between school and family.

The school is interested in hiring certified singles and couples, including those with a non-teaching partner. CKWA will also consider outstanding newly-certified candidates with a minimum of two years of experience. Candidates must be certified in an English-speaking country and hold a degree in the subject they will be teaching. Those up to the age of 60 may obtain a work visa.

The benefits package includes a moving allowance and airfare for the employee and one dependent at the start and end of contract, as well as a yearly airfare reimbursement after the summer holiday. CKWA offers free tuition for up to two children. Worldwide health insurance—except the U.S.—is fully covered and includes dental. Professional development, most likely for IB or IGCSE training, will be provided.
