International Teaching Jobs at Colegio Menor Guayaquil

Search Associates welcomes one of the top private schools in Ecuador: Colegio Menor Guayaquil, a day school that opened its doors in 2013. Following the success of the Colegio Menor Quito—which has been in operation for the past twenty years—the founders of Colegio Menor decided to open a branch in Ecuador's largest and most populous city, Guayaquil. Located in a safe, suburban part of the city known as Samborondon, Colegio Menor Guayaquil consists of a purpose-built facility with large, bright, well-equipped classrooms, and lots of space for children to play.

Colegio Menor Guayaquil currently enrolls 800 Playgroup through 9th grade students of 15 nationalities. Next year, the school plans to enroll a total of 900 students through Grade 10. While most of the students are Ecuadorian, 12% are from North America. The school is expanding one grade at a time and next year plans to enroll a total of 800 students through Grade 9. Fully accredited by AdvancEd and the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education, Colegio Menor Guayaquil offers a U.S.-style curriculum that will eventually culminate in Advanced Placement course options at the secondary level. The teaching staff of 100 includes 15 teachers from North America and the U.K. and 85 from Ecuador.

Colegio Menor Guayaquil is a secular school based on a liberal arts model of education, with a focus on a values-based curriculum, emphasizing music and the arts. Children in the Early Years division are in a full immersion program in English. From Grade 1 upwards, the language of instruction is split into 70% English and 30% Spanish.

Colegio Menor Guayaquil prefers to hire singles and teaching interns without dependents but would consider married couples, even those with a non-teaching spouse. The school will consider exceptional, newly-certified candidates as well as those certified in a non-English speaking country. Teachers need not hold their academic degree in the subject they will teach, and there is no age limit to obtain a work visa in Ecuador.

The benefits package includes a one-time moving and settling-in allowance as well as a monthly housing stipend and a lump sum to be put towards utilities. Round-trip airfare is provided annually as well as transportation to and from the school each day. Teachers’ children receive a 50% discount on tuition in the first year and a 75% discount thereafter. Worldwide health insurance, including life and long-term disability, are fully covered, and the school provides opportunities for professional development. Thanks to the low cost of living, the Colegio Menor Guayaquil package allows for savings.
