From Delays to Connection: Search Associates at CEESA 2026

Search Associates Tim Stuart and School Coordinator Lara ManasfiEach year, regional conferences across the globe offer international educators a powerful opportunity to connect, learn, and grow. For Search Associates (SEARCH), these gatherings remain an essential way to stay closely engaged with the schools and leaders we serve.

From March 12–14, nearly 250 educators convened in Sofia, Bulgaria for the 36th annual Central and Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA) Conference, hosted by the Anglo-American School of Sofia. Centered on the theme “The Heart and Art of Teaching,” the event delivered a rich program of keynotes, interactive workshops, and community-building events designed to inspire meaningful impact in international schools.

Despite travel disruptions, SEARCH’s Director of Leadership Recruitment and Global Partnerships, Tim Stuart, was able to attend the final day—reaffirming SEARCH’s commitment to staying connected and strengthening relationships across the international school community.

While my time there was extremely short, I was able to re-connect with many old colleagues and friends, which made the trip worthwhile.

These moments of reconnection, and the opportunity to build new relationships, are at the heart of Search Associates’ participation in conferences like CEESA, as well as similar gatherings across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Four keynote speakers brought diverse expertise and global perspectives to the conference. Lindsie Boykin focused on strengthening school communities through clarity, connection, and leadership. Drawing on her experience as a teacher, principal, and coach, she emphasized practical strategies for cultivating thriving learning environments.

Garfield Gini-Newman explored the design of deep, meaningful learning. An expert in critical thinking and curriculum development, Garfield highlighted how schools can intentionally foster rich learning experiences within safe, responsive environments.

Lauren Jones addressed the importance of inclusive systems for neurodivergent learners. With extensive international experience, she shared approaches for building sustainable, school-wide cultures of inclusion that expand access for all students.

Dominique Smith spoke on creating school cultures grounded in relationships, equity, and restorative practices. His work underscored the role of educators in fostering environments where every student feels valued and empowered.

Beyond the formal program, CEESA’s social events—from the Exhibitors Reception to the Gala—provided valuable space for educators to connect, exchange ideas, and celebrate their shared commitment to international education.

Taking his place at the exhibitor table on the final day, Tim Stuart affirmed that Search Associates’ ongoing participation in CEESA remains vital. These events not only strengthen professional networks but also deepen the partnerships that support schools and educators across the global community.
