Ecole d’Humanité Reaches Great Heights!

Ecole d'Humanité (EDH, referred to as the Ecole) is now one of Search Associates' premier registered schools. The Ecole is located in a rural village in the Swiss Alps, a 40-minute drive from Lucerne. Founded in 1934, this progressive international school, currently boards 130 Grade 6-12 students from 23 nations, 44% of whom are Swiss and 16% from N. America and the U.K. The school, accredited by both AdvancEd and Safety in Adventures, emphasizes the discovery and development of individual talent, mainly through art and sport and is known for its absence of grades and required courses. The teaching staff of 45, dedicated to living and learning with the students, includes 13 Swiss and 17 from N. America and the U.K. The majority of teachers will be a "family head," taking on the role as a boarding parent for a small group of students.

The Ecole is interested in hiring married teaching couples, with or without dependents. The school also welcomes applications from exceptional newly-certified teachers, experienced uncertified teachers, and teaching interns for its intern program. However, the Ecole is not inclined to hire single candidate with dependents or candidates with a non-teaching spouse. Certificated teachers of any age may obtain a visa. Important to note: Teachers from outside the European Union must hold a state-issued teaching certificate and at least two years of teaching experience. Interns must hold a European Union passport. Speaking German is an added benefit.

The Ecole's outstanding salary and comprehensive benefits package allow for considerable savings — even for teaching interns! After the school provides initial transportation to Switzerland for teachers and dependents, it subsidizes home leave travel every two years. The Ecole covers 50% of a teacher ' s total moving cost and provides faculty housing at 50% of market value. Not only is tuition free, but au pair service is also offered for families with young children. Insurance coverage includes local, major medical health, emergency evacuation, life insurance, and long-term disability. Ecole contributes 50% to a teacher's retirement plan. EDH even gifts its teachers with ski passes and subsidized access to vehicle use!
