A Unique Overseas Teaching Opportunity at one of the Oldest Schools in England

For nearly 450 years, Dartford Grammar School (DGS)—one of the oldest schools in England—has enabled young people from Dartford and its surrounding area to become confident, thoughtful, energetic citizens who do great things. Modern-day students leave the school fully prepared to contribute to the global community and to rise to the challenges of an increasingly complex future in the wider world.

Dartford Grammar School is uniquely one of the leading state schools offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme in the UK, and only one of a few to offer the IB Middle Years Programme. Currently enrolled are 1,260 students in UK Years 7-13.

The many after-school clubs and societies offered for Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 provide exploration and enrichment for everyone! Activities include, but are not limited to, the following: rugby, cricket, netball, track and field; Art Club; a wide variety of musical instruments and ensembles; film, drama, and productions; science, math, and computer exploration; health and well-being; LGBTQ+ Society; classics, writing, and debate; law; philosophy; Eco Council; and Gardening Club.

Along with well-equipped labs and classrooms, students enjoy use of the Beckets Sports Centre and The Mick Jagger Centre, a thriving performing arts center in Dartford, Kent, and home to the Dartford Symphony Orchestra. Ever since Sir Mick Jagger opened the The Mick Jagger Centre with HRH Duke of Kent in March 2000, the school has regularly hosted music gigs, tribute shows, and dance school productions there, and an array of community groups meet there every day of the week.

DGS hires certified, single teachers but would consider teaching couples as well as newly-certified candidates. Teachers must hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. There is no age limit for certified teachers to obtain a work visa.

DGS offers assistance with housing and an exceptional onboarding program to ensure a smooth cultural transition to England. In addition, DGS contributes to a retirement plan and provides professional development opportunities to ensure all teachers are trained in the IB Programme.
