To the Sem community:

After an international search, I am pleased to announce that Lauren Streifer (pictured) has been named the new Vice President for Academic Affairs at Wyoming Seminary.

Lauren joins Sem from the International School of Panama in Panama City where she currently serves as the Director of Teaching and Learning. In her role there her duties include ensuring the implementation of strategic plans aligned to academic excellence, cultivating a systematic teaching and learning ethos across all grades, and driving improvement initiatives tied to curriculum, instruction and assessment to position ISP as a global leader in academics and innovation. During her time at ISP, enrollment went from 600 mostly domestic students to today's enrollment of 1250 students, with nearly 75 percent representing 50 nationalities.

An Upper School academic department chair wrote of Lauren, "I found Lauren to be extremely resourceful and communicative. She has a lot of experience with curriculum and programming for students and faculty. She is a problem solver, and I like that she has a knowledge of organizations and associations for professional development. Lauren aligns well with where Sem is going in terms of 21st century teaching and learning."

Prior to ISP, Lauren was the Academic Coordinator at Laconia High School in Laconia, New Hampshire, where she oversaw school improvement initiatives tied to curriculum, instruction and assessment. Lauren is a graduate of St. Mary's College of Maryland, where she received a bachelor of arts degree in a double major of biology and chemistry, and received a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and K-12 Principal Certification at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire.

In the role of Vice President for Academic Affairs, Lauren will work alongside faculty to oversee Sem's toddler through postgraduate academic programming. She will develop mission-driven curriculum with deans and department chairs to ensure curricular consistency, continuity, coordination and coherence within and among different departments for both Lower and Upper Schools. Reporting to the president and serving on the president's cabinet, Lauren will also be charged with creation and presentation of professional development initiatives aligned with divisional and school-wide goals. She will join the Sem community on August 1, 2017.

I would like to extend my personal thanks to Lower School Dean Kathy Hanlon and Upper School Dean Jay Harvey for their outstanding work on this search, as well as the invaluable support of the department chairs and faculty in both divisions. They contributed many hours and deep insights, which ultimately helped us find the best candidate!

Warm regards,

Kevin Rea
