Dear Search Associates Colleagues,

On behalf of the Singapore American School (SAS) Search Committee, we are pleased to announce that Ms. Jamila MacArthur has been appointed as the new Executive Director of Teaching and Learning beginning in August 2026.  

Ms. MacArthur brings a wealth of leadership experience, knowledge and expertise. She  is currently serving as the Chief Academic Officer at The Awty International School in Houston, Texas. Prior to this she held the roles of Head of Student Support and Wellbeing at the Canadian International School in Singapore, Statewide Director of Teaching & Learning and the Oklahoma Public School Resource Center in Oklahoma City, OK, and Chief Academic Officer and Lead Principal at the Tulsa Legacy Charter School in Tulsa. She is also experienced as a National Partner, School Leadership Coach from her time working with Transcend Education, a national non-profit committed to community-based school redesign.

Ms. MacArthur holds a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Letters from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Arts with honors in Administrative Leadership from California State University, and a Master of Arts with honors in Elementary Education from Loyola Marymount University. Additionally, Ms. MacArthur holds Administrative Certification PK-12 from Oklahoma and California, Positive Educator certification from The Center for Positive Education, and International Coaching Federation Coach certification.

The SAS Search Committee selected Ms. MacArthur from a highly experienced and qualified group of candidates based on her significant leadership experience and depth of knowledge. 

She is eager to join SAS and looks forward to returning to live in Singapore.  In response to her appointment as the next Executive Director of Teaching and Learning at SAS, Ms. MacArthur shared, “Singapore American School holds a truly special place in the international education community, and I am deeply honored to be joining such a remarkable school. Having lived and worked in Singapore before, I know firsthand the incredible energy, diversity, and spirit of this city, and I cannot wait to return with my family.
