ACADEMIC HEAD OF SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENT

Dear Search Associates Colleagues,

On behalf of the Yoyogi International School community in Tokyo, Japan, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Paul Evan Apostolou as the next Academic Head of School, beginning July 2026. This appointment follows an extensive international search conducted by Search Associates in collaboration with the Administration of Yoyogi International School.

An accomplished international educator and visionary school leader, Mr. Apostolou brings more than two decades of experience in Australian and international schools, including significant leadership roles across Japan and Australia. He has a distinguished record of leading accreditation and authorization processes for IB World Schools and Australian educational authorities, with a particular focus on fostering excellence in teaching, learning, and whole-school wellbeing.

Most recently, Mr. Apostolou has been serving as Assistant Principal (ELC–Year 12) and Head of Junior School at St. George College in Adelaide, South Australia, where he has been instrumental in designing the school’s K–12 strategic framework, leading professional growth and mentorship programs, and aligning school operations with evidence-based, future-focused educational practices.

Previously, as Deputy Principal and Acting Principal at the Australian International Academy of Education, Kellyville, he played a pivotal role in securing the school’s successful authorization for all three International Baccalaureate Programs (PYP, MYP, and DP). Earlier in his career, he served at Tamagawa Academy in Tokyo, one of Japan’s pioneering IB schools, where he coordinated the IB Middle Years and Diploma Programs and helped establish one of the first teacher-training accreditation courses at a national Japanese university.

Mr. Apostolou holds a Master of Education (Leadership) and a Master of Applied Linguistics, both from Macquarie University, as well as a Bachelor of Education from Flinders University. As a member of the International Baccalaureate Educators Network since 2011, he serves as Workshop Leader, Evaluation and Program Leader, and Consultant for IB schools across the Asia-Pacific region.

Throughout his career, Paul has been recognized for his vision-driven and collaborative leadership, his commitment to holistic wellbeing, and his ability to cultivate inclusive, high-performing school cultures grounded in shared purpose and continuous improvement. Deeply aligned with Yoyogi International School’s mission to nurture globally minded learners through inquiry, creativity, and care, he is eager to contribute to the school’s next chapter of growth and excellence.
