Where Tradition Meets Innovation: Teaching Abroad at Colegio Internacional de Caracas

Enjoy the enriching experience of international teaching at Colegio Internacional de Caracas (CIC), Venezuela, a school with a proud history spanning over 100 years. Nestled in a residential area of Caracas, CIC boasts a stunning view of the Avila Mountain. With small class sizes and a robust academic program, CIC graduates gain admission to prestigious universities across the Americas, Asia, and Europe. CIC also takes pride in its innovative CIC Design Center, where students engage in hands-on learning through Lego Robotics, circuit building, and 3-D printing.

Fully accredited by AdvancEd/Cognia, CIC is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School authorized to offer both the Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma (DP) Programmes, alongside the U.S. Common Core standards. CIC currently enrolls approximately 200 K-12 students, 80% of whom are Venezuelan. The teaching staff is composed of approximately 65% Venezuelan, ensuring a rich cultural representation and connection to the local community.

Community service and student outreach are integral components of school life at CIC. Each student selects a way to “give back” to the broader community, beginning as early as Grade 1. Students participate in student government and engage in school-wide decision making, fostering a sense of leadership from a young age.

After school, students can choose from a wide range of activities based on their interests and the availability of staff sponsorship. These include sports, arts, and technology, all with a focus on fun and learning. Drama productions are all performed entirely in Spanish, enriching students’ language skills and cultural appreciation. Additionally, secondary school students participate in sports competitions in basketball, volleyball, and soccer. They may also join Model United Nations. In fact, CIC has proudly hosted the South American Model United Nations (SAMUN) since 1990. Middle School students prepare for the Junior Model United Nations, JMUN, in their social studies classes and host students from other schools in Caracas for a convention in the spring.

CIC hires international teaching singles and couples of diverse profiles, including couples with non-teaching partners, newly certified candidates, and experienced teachers without certification. They would also consider interns. Candidates must hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. As per government regulations, those up to the age of 63 may obtain a work visa.

The benefits package for those teaching abroad includes a moving allowance and a furnished apartment near the school. At the beginning and end of the first two-year contract, airfare is provided. From the third year on, one roundtrip airfare is provided annually. Tuition for up to two children and local health insurance is fully covered. CIC provides professional development opportunities.
