Warm Welcome to NCIC-Immersion School, Shenzhen, China

Search Associates hails the new NCIC-Immersion School, an independent division of the Nanshan Chinese International College, one of the top independent schools in Shenzhen. The school launched in August 2016, offering a lower elementary program for students from Kindergarten to Grade 2. Already, additional grade levels have been added through Grade 8, with possible expansion through Grade 12 in the coming years.

The school sits in the heart of Shenzhen, between the financial Futian district and the Bohemian expat district of Shekou. Thirty minutes by bus from Hong Kong and 45 minutes by ferry from Macau, Shenzhen is a major city in the Guangdong Province located along the Pearl River Delta. Shenzhen, immediately north of Hong Kong, was instituted as China's first Special Economic Zone in late 1979. During the 1990s and 2000s, it was one of the fastest growing cities in the world, with a metropolitan population of over 18 million. Due to its high concentration of technology companies, Shenzhen is a major financial center in southern China and is dubbed "China's Silicon Valley."

NCIC-Immersion School is housed in a purpose-built complex where classrooms are arranged to encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving in an atmosphere of warmth, affection, and respect for each child. Facilities include a library, playground, indoor gym, an outdoor track athletic field, and auditorium.

NCIC–Immersion School holds candidate status with the Western Association of Schools and follows the U.S. Common Core Curriculum in addition to the national Chinese curriculum. The school also uses inquiry-based learning, in which students become negotiators, collaborators, inquirers, and complex thinkers. Currently, 341 K–8 Chinese students learn through active exploration in an environment rich in materials and opportunities to converse, socialize, work, play, and negotiate with others. The teaching staff of 37 consists of 23 North Americans and 14 Chinese teachers.

NCIC-Immersion School is interested in hiring singles and teaching couples. They will consider couples with a non-teaching spouse—for whom there are local opportunities—as well as interns. Candidates must be certified in an English-speaking country, and the school will consider exceptional, recently-certified teachers. However, all candidates must have proof of two years' teaching experience to obtain a Chinese visa. Additionally, teachers must hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Work visas may be obtained up to the age of 60.

The school's compensation package includes a salary not subject to tax, a one-time settling-in and moving allowance, a monthly housing and utilities stipend, and annual round-trip airfare home. The school provides 100% tuition for one child per full-time foreign-hire teacher, but it should be noted that children of employees who attend the school must participate in the full academic program, including the national Chinese curriculum. Each teacher is given an annual professional development stipend. Worldwide health insurance coverage, including dental and emergency evacuation, is included, with the employee paying a percentage. This salary and benefits package allows for substantial savings or the chance for a family of four to live simply on one salary.
