April 25, Senior Associates and Consultants Ralph Jahr and Jim Ambrose, in collaboration with the Board of Directors, announced that the International School of Kenya (ISK) in Nairobi selected Mr. David Henry as the new ISK Director for the 2016-2017 academic year.
Mr. Henry, currently the Director of the Tashkent International School in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, has held previous head of school positions in the Bahamas, Mali, and Chad. He has also worked in overseas schools in El Salvador, Saudi Arabia, Niger, Burkina Faso and Latvia as well as in the United States. Mr. Henry earned Master's Degrees from the College of New Jersey and Howard University as well as a BS from the University of Tulsa. David, together with his wife Maria and their daughters, will move to Nairobi in July 2016.
The International School of Kenya was originally named the U.S. Community School by its founder and principal in 1967. In 1970, the United States International University purchased the school, renamed it Nairobi International School, and moved it to a fifty-acre former coffee plantation. The non-profit, pre-K-12 school has continued to provide a challenging North American curriculum, as well as the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. Since 1967, students have had ample opportunities for service learning, assisting the local and national community. The school's mission to give back to the community includes a scholarship program for Kenyan students ("About ISK").
ISK, in support of diversity, currently enrolls over 900 students from more than 65 different countries. Graduates, 70% of whom earn the IB diploma, leave prepared to study at some of the best colleges and universities in the world. This well-reputed school abroad has helped to attract foreign business investment, in addition to individuals interested in the development of East Africa. With a capacity for 1,200 students, ISK has begun a multi-million dollar facility and program expansion project. Search Associates congratulates both Mr. Henry and ISK, as we anticipate the next exciting chapter in this flourishing international school ("About ISK").
