Overseas Teaching Positions in the United Arab Emirates

Welcome to Al Yasat Private School (AYPS), a progressive, purpose-built day school in Abu Dhabi. Established in 2014, the school is located in the suburban area of Khalifa A/Al Shamka, within close proximity to the Abu Dhabi airport.

Fully accredited by AdvancEd, AYPS follows the U.S. Common Core curriculum for English and math, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for science, and the Virginia State Curriculum for all other subjects. This framework is complemented by courses in Arabic language, Islamic Studies (for Muslim students) and U.A.E. Social Studies to meet the requirements of the U.A.E. Ministry of Education. An extensive range of extra-curricular activities are held at lunchtime and after school.

Currently 1,023 K–12 students, mostly Emirati, are enrolled. The teaching staff of 78 includes 14 teachers from North America and the U.K. AYPS, which places heavy emphasis on student-centered pedagogies, says,

“Supported by our core skill subjects, our STEM robotics and media programs help prepare our students for participation in the future work force. This is underpinned by providing collaboration, critical thinking, enquiry-focused and both real world and life like learning experiences. In partnership with parents, we strive to equip our students with the 21st-century skill set that will enable them to thrive, exercise leadership, achieve ambitious goals, and make a positive difference in an increasingly globalized world.”

AYPS is interested in hiring singles but would married couples with a non-teaching spouse. They will also consider newly certified teachers with exceptional personal qualities and those certified in a non-English speaking country. Certified candidates must hold their academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. The U.A.E. issues work visas to teachers under the age of 50.

Benefits include a non-taxed salary, round-trip airfare every year, and studio apartments for single teachers. The tuition benefit is 100% for the first child and 50% for subsequent children. AYPS provides professional development and local health insurance.
