International Teaching in Shanghai

Nord Anglia International School Shanghai, Pudong (NAIS Pudong) is located within the Cambridge Forest New Town residential compound, a green suburb approximately 20 kilometers from the center of Shanghai. NAIS Pudong is part of Global Campus, Nord Anglia Education’s innovative online community connecting 66 of its member schools. Through its Global Campus, students collaborate and learn as well as join expeditions and international gatherings with students from Nord Anglia schools around the world.

Despite Shanghai’s tremendous size, most of the central areas are grouped together and manageable to navigate, and within each neighborhood, travel by foot is relatively easy. The metro is fast and safe, and trains are clean and quiet—as long as one avoids rush hour. The Shanghai Maglev, reaching a maximum speed of 268 mph, is a high-speed train that can take travelers to Pudong International Airport in just over seven minutes!

Currently, NAIS Pudong enrolls 690 K–12, day students of 50 nationalities, with 17% from North America and 12% from the U.K. The teaching staff of 65 includes 44 teachers from the U.K., six from China, and five from North America. The contemporary, globally-focused academic program includes the English National Curriculum, the International Primary Curriculum, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Registered with the Shanghai Education Commission, NAIS Pudong is also a member of the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS) and the Council of British International Schools.

In collaboration with the world-renowned Juilliard School, the NAIS Pudong curriculum gives students a unique opportunity to learn about music through the study and practice of classical works as well as regular connections with practicing musicians.

Athletes at NAIS Pudong can train and/or compete in rugby, football (soccer), netball, swimming, basketball, and volleyball. Netball and rugby teams compete in ACAMIS tournaments.

After school, NAIS Pudong is able to offer over 135 different activities. The teachers heading the Co-curricular Activities programme (CCA) encourage students to develop and demonstrate originality, skill, self-awareness, and confidence. Chinese culture is also featured in some CCAs, for example, calligraphy or making traditional Chinese dumplings. Global and social responsibility are a focus of the flagship CCAs Model United Nations and the Tanzania Expedition. NAIS Pudong also encourages and supports students who are moved to launch their own service projects where they see need. While this extensive choice of co-curricular activities provides opportunities for students to serve others close to home, the school’s annual Project Week trips and Tanzania trip give students a chance to contribute globally.

NAIS Pudong is interested in hiring certified teachers, with a bachelor’s degree and at least two years’ teaching experience. They will consider candidates with a non-teaching partner. Teachers need not hold their academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Certified teachers up to the age of 60 may obtain a work visa.

The benefits package includes a competitive salary along with a monthly housing stipend, a one-time moving allowance, and one annual airfare home. The tuition benefit is 100% for two children; more than two dependents would attend at a charge of 20% of the tuition fee. Professional development is provided for staff members. Teachers are awarded a gratuity bonus, and worldwide health insurance is fully covered.
