Combining a Biblical Worldview and Academic Excellence in Overseas Teaching

The International Community School, Singapore (ICS) offers overseas teachers an opportunity to exemplify the four core values that form the foundation of the school’s purpose: academic excellence, biblical worldview, caring community, and personal excellence. The school’s mission:

We educate minds because we believe that God has a plan for each of our students and has created them with unique gifts and abilities. We believe that transformation occurs holistically so we actively invest in the personal growth and academic development of all learners. We believe that our students are global learners with the ability to lead positive change, impacting the world for God’s glory through their individual skills, talents, and purpose.

To support living the mission, the campus at ICS is well-equipped with air-conditioned classrooms, science and technology laboratories, a multi-purpose hall, and library. The school also features basketball courts, a volleyball court, a multi-purpose sports field, gymnasium, and two playgrounds. Students eat lunch in the beautiful open-air canteen located near the entrance of the school.

Currently enrolled are 357 K-12 students of 28 nationalities. Overseas teachers will join the current teaching staff of 54 that includes six from Singapore who support cultural integration in Singapore. Accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges and Association of Christian Schools International, ICS delivers the U.S. Common Core and Advanced Placement courses.

ICS students have the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of extracurricular activities and sports (ECA) such as ceramics, taekwondo, Model United Nations, typography, and dance. Past sports offerings have included a volleyball club for the littlest learners, disc golf club for mid-grade elementary school students, and a soccer club for students in middle school.

Knight Nation is the affectionate name of the competitive sports program at ICS wherein students train and compete in soccer, basketball, badminton, high school volleyball, and high school frisbee. All students are encouraged to participate and to support school spirit and pride through Knight Nation games and events.

The successful teach-abroad candidates are experienced, certified singles and married couples, including those with a non-teaching spouse. Overseas teachers need not hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. As per government regulations, those with current certification from English-speaking countries may obtain a work visa up to the age of 50.

Teach abroad benefits include moving allowance, monthly housing, and annual airfare. ICS covers full tuition for overseas teachers’ children. In addition to organizing professional development (PD) for the whole school, ICS offers individual PD funds for each teacher. Worldwide health insurance—including life, long-term disability, and emergency evacuation—is fully covered. The package allows for some savings, and there are local employment opportunities for non-teaching spouses.
