Dear Search Associates Colleagues,

On behalf of Fukuoka International School, I am pleased to announce that Mr. Matt Kimber has been appointed as the new Head of School of FIS beginning in August 2025.  

Mr. Kimber brings a wealth of international experience to FIS. He will be joining FIS from Switzerland, where he serves as Head of School at BKA International School in Basel, an International Baccalaureate World School. Originally from London, England, Mr. Kimber has held leadership and teaching roles across Europe and Asia over the past twenty years. He holds an MEd, an MA, and an MBA from the University of Cambridge, UK. In addition, he actively supports the International Baccalaureate by leading school development workshops and overseeing accreditation and authorisation visits across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

The FIS Search Committee selected Mr. Kimber from an extremely strong pool of qualified candidates based on his leadership experience at BKA International School and former schools.

Mr. Tachibana, Chair of the  FIS Search Committee, shared the following about Mr. Kimber’s’ candidacy and appointment:  

“We have great respect for Mr. Kimber’s integrity, his wealth of experience, and his caring nature. We are confident that under his leadership, FIS will reach even greater heights in the future.”

Mr. Kimber looks forward to serving as the next Head of School at FIS and shared how he was thoroughly impressed by the FIS community and the stakeholders he met during the recruitment process. He noted how everyone was aligned with the school’s mission and vision to Include, Empower, and Impact. He is excited to join FIS and looks forward to working closely with everyone in the community.
