Position Overview
The Director of Business & Administration at St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju reports directly to the Head of School and the CEO of JEINS. The successful candidate will manage the school’s business operations in finance, human resources, facilities management, and campus operations, ensuring these functions support the school’s academic programs promptly and effectively. This role suits individuals with experience in international school settings, specifically those familiar with operating in Korea. The ability to collaborate with both Korean and foreign faculty and staff in a multicultural environment is essential. Experience managing large school budgets and reporting to multiple stakeholders is critical.

Position Qualifications

Education, Experience, & Language Requirements:


Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in business management, school administration, finance, or a related field is required.
  • A master’s degree or higher in a relevant field is a strong asset.

Experience:

  • At least three to five years of relevant experience in international school administration or business management, with a strong record of success.
  • Experience in managing operations is essential, particularly in finance, HR, and campus operations.
  • Experience working in multicultural environments and managing relationships with diverse stakeholder groups, including school leadership, local staff, faculty, and parent representatives.
  • Familiarity with Korean educational policies, laws, and tax systems is a plus.

Language:

  • Fluent in English with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Korean is an asset.

Salary and Benefits

Salary & Benefits:

The salary for this position will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the scope of responsibilities. A competitive benefits package, including housing and health insurance, will be provided.

Responsibilities

Finance:

  • Preparation of annual budgets, business plans, and financial forecasts.
  • Monitoring budget implementation, variances, and providing recommendations.
  • Reporting financial updates to the Finance Committee, Governing Board, and relevant authorities.
  • Managing short-term cash flow and long-term investments.
  • Overseeing credit control, debt collection, and administration of scholarship and bursary programs.
  • Experience as a CPA and working with internal and external audits is a requirement.
  • Ensuring all financial practices align with school policies and legal requirements in Korea.

Human Resources:

  • Collaborating with the HR Team to manage recruitment, transfers, and staff separation for national staff.
  • Advising the Head of School and CEO on employment matters and contractual provisions.
  • Ensuring compliance with Korean employment laws and handling staff grievances.
  • Overseeing performance evaluations and professional development plans for national staff.

Facilities & ICT:

  • Maintaining campus facilities to a high standard and ensuring security.
  • Collaborating with the Operations and ICT teams to manage faculty housing, ICT services, and campus safety.


Campus Operations & Academic Support:

  • Supervising Medical Center, Libraries, Sports Center, and other campus services.
  • Overseeing administrative support for cafeteria services, school bus operations, uniforms, and academic support.

Reporting and Evaluation

The Director of Business Administration will report directly to both the Head of School and the CEO of JEINS, ensuring a strong alignment between the business operations and the institution's strategic vision. Performance evaluations will be conducted annually by both the Head of School and the CEO, providing comprehensive feedback reflecting academic and operational perspectives. These evaluations will assess the Director's effectiveness in meeting the school's business objectives, managing resources, and fostering collaboration across all departments.
