Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Search Committee and the Escuela Americana de El Salvador, we thank you for your interest in the Director General position. We received a large number of well qualified and experienced candidates, of which you were one. Below is an excerpt from the Board of Directors letter to the school community.

“With much pride, we can say that it was a participative process where teachers, parents, administration, students, alumni, and Board members all collaborated. In order for the selection process to be professionally conducted, we hired the organization Search Associates. Mr. John Magagna, founder of Search Associates was directly responsible for this search and was in constant communication with Mr. Carlos Moreno, the Chair of the Search Committee. After collecting the evaluations, analysis, and opinions regarding the candidates and their qualifications, the Board of Directors found that the professional who best met the desired profile was Dr. Michael Patrick Smith. He stood out among the other candidates for his experience, his firm educational convictions, his credentials as an administrator, his ease of communication with the different groups, his character, and his high level of interest and motivation to come to El Salvador.

We are pleased to announce that we made a final job offer to Dr. Smith which he has accepted. He, his wife Katie and daughters Brigid and Fiona will be moving to El Salvador in July. Their son Connor will be attending Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota as a freshman.” Michael is currently the Superintendent at St. John Paul II Catholic Schools Fargo, ND. Before moving back to the United States he was a Principal at Saudi Aramco School Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and at John F. Kennedy School Berlin, Germany. He has also been a Principal and Teacher in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Michael has a Bachelors degree from Saint John’s University, MN, and he has a Masters degree and his Doctorate of Educational Leadership from St. Mary’s University in MN.
